Today is the beginning of Stay Smart Online Week (Monday 2 to Friday 6 June), an Australian Government initiative to educate internet users about protecting their personal and financial information online. The initiative is supported by around 1700 organisations in government, industry and the community, including several universities.
This year’s theme – ‘On the Go’ – reflects the importance of staying secure online when using mobile devices. As universities make the shift to a wireless environment, staff and students should be encouraged to learn ways to protect devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones.
Stay Smart Online has introduced a series of Top Tips for securing mobile devices which are now available on the Stay Smart Online website. A new song – Do You Stay Smart Online? – has also been launched on YouTube to celebrate Stay Smart Online Week 2014.
We encourage members to watch and share the video with colleagues, family and friends.
Members are also invited to subscribe to the free Stay Smart Online Alert Service to keep informed about recent online threats and scams, and solutions to manage any risks.
Universities can still become a Stay Smart Online partner for 2014 by registering online. There are no financial costs or legal obligations – all that is needed is your commitment to help spread the message about online security and safety.
