This presentation will explore the significance of integrating diverse perspectives into the curriculum including Indigenous voices emphasising the role of the library and technology in achieving this goal.
Flinders University Library offers an “Online Content” service that supports teaching academics in locating various resources for their topics, including journal articles, book chapters, podcasts, videos, and interactive materials. Recently, this service has been broadened to include a specific option for sourcing resources authored by Indigenous authors to integrate into teaching. This initiative supports the University Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) goal 5: Enhance understanding, value, and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, knowledge, and rights through cultural education.
Resources selected by Librarians through the ‘Online Content’ service can be integrated into students Learning Management Systems (LMS) using the reading management system ‘Leganto’. Integrating the LMS with tools like Leganto for managing readings and resources can help in fostering an inclusive learning environment. These tools assist educators in offering varied perspectives and resources and can provide context with the use of note-taking features. Moreover, the use of the reading management system within the LMS enables educators to track student engagement and participation, providing valuable insights into their learning journeys. All students benefit from engaging with Indigenous voices and perspectives to deepen their appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and knowledge. Furthermore, students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander can see their identities and experiences represented in course materials contributing to their well-being and academic performance.
Integrating readings within the LMS, coupled with a commitment to inclusivity, greatly improves students' experience, sense of belonging, and overall well-being. This strategy not only enriches academic experiences but also equips students to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.

Liz Hounslow is currently the Academic Engagement Lead at Flinders University Library, a role she has held since January 2023. Prior to this, Liz was the Content Strategy Lead also at Flinders and Library Coordinator (Education Engagement). With extensive experience in academic libraries, Liz is passionate about improving the student experience by providing appropriate and accessible digital resources at the point of need to students.
