Research Data & Copyright: Training Modules that Mind the Gap - THETA 2025

Coordinator, Curtin University

Presentation Summary

In University research support teams, who is responsible when a query touches both on copyright and research data issues? These concerns often fall in between distinct domains of knowledge, with neither side feeling confident in reaching across the divide.

Curtin University Library is developing a series of training modules to address this issue. Starting with a Core “basics” module and moving to more complex topics including Contracts, Licensing, and Data Reuse, the material is designed to be shared across Australian institutions and customised locally. This project was inspired by Curtin’s participation in the Principles Aligned Institutionally-Contextualised Research Data Management Training (PAI-C) programme  run by the ARDC.

This presentation will outline Curtin’s plan, process, and developments to date.
