Information protection and privacy: doing just enough is no longer good enough
presented by Castlepoint Systems
As legislation around privacy and data protection is changing and growing exponentially, the window of leniency around data breaches is closing. With an abundance of personal, sensitive and intellectual property data combined with budgetary pressures and stretched resources, the Higher Education sector has become a prime target for data breaches and cyberattacks. Universities not only have to keep pace with the changes and manage change fatigue, but also reduce their threat surface in the event of a data breach. They need to do more to protect their data than they have ever done before. But how?
In this fireside chat, Gabrielle Ingram, Head of Information Management and Solutions at Griffith University and Rachael Greaves, CEO of Castlepoint Systems will explore how changing legislation will impact universities and some of the ways Higher Education institutions can remain compliant and safe without grappling with what regulations apply to what information. They will also discuss using ethical AI to manage the information lifecycle across their entire networks and auto-classify data for effective disposition and retention, preventing costly legal actions and fines.
About Castlepoint
Castlepoint Systems' powerful AI-driven platform is the intersection between cybersecurity and data governance. It is the only solution using ethical AI to unlock information management, eDiscovery, governance, risk, and compliance solutions for the fastest, easiest way to find, manage, protect, and de-risk all of an organisation’s information in a single interface. Founded in 2012 in Australia, the multi-award-winning solution allows governance and risk teams to have a complete view across the whole environment and optimise investment in security, eDiscovery, and compliance processes. Castlepoint’s scalable and transparent AI enables organisations to safeguard communities and people from data mismanagement and risk.
More than 75 per cent of federal agencies and several higher education institutions including Griffith University, Charles Darwin University (CDU) are using Castlepoint to discover and audit public, private and sensitive records.
Charles Darwin university is one of Castlepoint's success stories. With Higher Education providers increasingly being a target for cyber-crime, protection of CDU’s valuable information assets became a key priority and they wanted to ensure a safe digital environment was maintained for their students and staff.
Castlepoint’s indexing revealed many high-risk records in CDU’s Microsoft 365 environment, while surfacing records overdue for data governance actions. CDU’s governance team are currently working through a remediation program with Governance and Legal including auditing, data clean-up, records appraisal and sentencing.
